Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)

Habitat Creation, Management & ECoW - Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)

Over the years we have acted as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) for a wide range of clients across the South of England.

Our clientele include individual’s home owners, to developers, construction companies and fellow ecological consultancies. As a result, we have had the pleasure of working on a range of projects inclusive of residential developments, infrastructure, hospital, schools and car park builds.

ECoW has increasingly become a condition of planning and we are committed to developing strong working relationships with our clients to ensure the requirements of their projects are achieved in full.

The role of an ECoW may include but is not restricted to;

  • Pre-construction checks for sensitive habitats and protected species
  • Supervision of GCN / reptile fence installation and removal
  • Site checks to assess the maintenance of reptile and/or GCN fencing and / or construction exclusion zones related to protected species
  • Supervision of hedgerow removal
  • Supervision of spoil removal
  • Supervised roof strips
  • Presentation of Tool Box Talks to the onsite contractors prior to starting works on a site
  • Monitoring and advising onsite workers on best practice guidelines when working within sensitive areas
  • Overseeing and monitoring of the construction of habitat enhancement areas
  • Detailed reporting of findings, sightings and mitigation

To keep projects moving in a positive direction, we can provide advice on timings machinery and contractors where required and we pride ourselves on our application of a forward thinking approach whilst administering a detailed working knowledge of the planning processes and policies and UK / EU wildlife legislation.
